Port Forwarding and Firewall Requirements

As part of the configuration process, and before we can ship you your server, we’ll need to discuss with your technical representative the various server settings required in order for the server to seamlessly install into your existing network infrastructure.

This includes the Xyntax Server’s static IP Address, DNS and Gateway information.

Firewall Requirements

For security reasons, the Xyntax server deliberately ignores any and all connections that are not specifically pointed at it. Therefore specific firewall port forwarding is required both for on-going maintenance and direct client access. We require three specific ports to be forwarded to the server directly (these ports have been deliberately masked for security reasons). Please contact Xyntax Technical Support for further information.

Xyntax firewall requirements are as follows:

10000 is expected to be local and does not forward.
XXXXX (TCP)

is expected to connect to the software using a valid client software version and proper credentials.

Normally would not be restricted as clients may connect remotely from anywhere if they have been given remote access authorization to do so.

XXXX (TCP)

used only for SSH tunneling by Xyntax for O/S maintenance. Incoming connections can be limited to our public address. Outgoing connections may direct to any of our servers.

XXXX (TCP)

is needed for remote procurement and payment authorizations, generally where someone is away and needs to approve something like a P.O. or a cheque from their smartphone device.

Once both the server and firewall have validated an appropriate connection, a second security check will validate the client software version and credentials in order to start a session. Once the client is connected, a third security check requires that client must have a valid username and password in order to access any data available on the Xyntax server. Finally, once the client has logged in all data is further restricted by company, department, system, program, and process.

Server Install

Once your server has been configured, it will be shipped for your technician(s) to get it in place and install. If arrangements have already been made prior to the “Installation Date” we can ship your server almost immediately allowing the new server to be put into place, but not plugged into the network until it is ready to take over. When your server arrives, your technician will need to connect the server to your network.

Please make sure your technician tests the server’s connectivity to both the internal network and the remote connection to the our offices, ensuring both work properly. After the server has been installed and tested. The final stage of your installation is the installation of the Xyntax application software itself.
